Introduction to BARMM
What is BARMM?
The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is a self-governing region in the southern Philippines, established in 2019. It is the culmination of decades of conflict and negotiations between the Moro people and the Philippine government, seeking to address historical grievances and provide greater autonomy to the region.
The BARMM has its own parliament, called the Bangsamoro Parliament, which has the power to legislate on a wide range of matters, including education, health, and natural resources. It also has its own executive branch, headed by a Chief Minister.
The BARMM was established based on the CAB, a peace agreement signed in 2014 between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). The CAB outlines the framework for a new autonomous region in Mindanao, aiming to address the root causes of the conflict and create a more inclusive and peaceful society.
Overall, the BARMM represents a significant step towards a more inclusive and just society in Mindanao. It is a beacon of hope for peace and development in a region that has been plagued by conflict for decades.
